Below is a slide show of some of my best aerial photographs of Winthrop. What an experience! It was definitely the most exhilarating photography assignment I’ve ever had. I was lucky enough to connect with Al Coombs, an experienced pilot and photographer. We went on a 4.5 hour flying adventure from the North Shore to the South Shore of Boston, and back. I shot a Canon 1DS Mach II with a 70-200 USM IS 2.8 lens. We shot at 200 ISO and at least 1/1000 shutter speed all day in order to make sure there the photos were superb in quality and sharpness. And they were. By looking at the photos, you’d never know we were zooming along anywhere between 40 to 110 mph high above the land. We ended up taking approximately over 2000 photos, using up more than 45 gigs of memory. And all the while, neither of us got sick. Not bad!

P.S. There are more aerial photos to follow, including some of the best lighthouse photos of Boston Light and Graves Light I’ve ever seen. Ok, I’m a little bias, but they are damn good. I promise.

These photos of the Winthrop Horribles Parade were taken on July 4th. It was a bright beautiful day, one of the few we had over the last month. Sometimes the sun was so bright creating horrible shadows on the Horribles Parade. This can be resolved in post production on the computer using software such as Photoshop and even free software Google Picasa. Recently Beacon Photography sponsored a basketball team in this year’s Winthrop Adult Summer Basketball League. The team and the league started slowly, as many of the games were canceled due to rain, and many of the Beacon players did not know each other. As the season rolled on, Beacon went on a tear with a record of 6-3. Playoffs start next week, so wish us luck.
